What has been going on….. I didn’t work on Monday, I was off because I had to work the previous Sat. What did I actually do? Hmmmm. I read The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

This is one of my all time favorite books. Why, I don’t really know. I think it has to do with going to Disney World when I was 9 and saw they’re interpretation in the Haunted Mansion. I remember being awed by it. When I got older and started to read for fun, I read it, and was enamored with the text. Would you trade your soul for youth? Me, probably not because I ain’t got time for that. Also, spoiler, like the character, I would probably end up killing people.

The reason I chose to read the book was because I am doing a book club discussion next week and I chose this book. Our book club, don’t get me wrong, it is OK, but they read the same miserable sad stories over and over, no fun, nothing different. I have changed this since I’ve come along…we read LGBTQ+ books, African American Books, classis literature, horror…I want people to be able to get out of their comfort zone and read about the world around them, instead of staying in their bubble.

Yesterday was just work. On certain days, I am in certain departments due to my dual role. Tuesdays I am all about the CYS (Children and Youth Services.) It was pretty quiet. I don’t think a kid came downstairs until about 11:30 and we open at 9. I honestly couldn’t tell you what I did….and that was 24 hours ago. That is so sad….. don’t get old kids!

Today is Wednesday, and I had to work 1-9. We have a program happening about the history of the Chicago Auto Show. I had no idea it started in 1901….that is crazyness. Also, bring back the jazzy show numbers in between the car reveals! The library closes at 7 and the program is 7-9 so I am here at the door turning people away who aren’t here for the program. People not here for the program don’t get that we are closed, that there is no additional staff here, so no, I can’t let you in.

I am looking forward to this weekend. 2 more days of work until I can relax. The one thing I am not a fan of, is this mother fuckin weather. ILLINOIS…. wtf is going on? It was raining and 40 a week ago. Now its 1000 degrees, no clouds, no shade…. and homie don’t play that. I burn so so easily, and my skin is just no a fan of the sun. 3 minutes in the sun and I am a lobster. I have always hated the heat. I don’t like it. I don’t like to sweat is the real issue. I don’t like the feeling.

Bring the cold, bring the snow… bring a cloud. I don’t care, but please get the sun away. And I know, there are people who in Winter are like “I can’t wait for the summer!” and I am not one of those people. I would never wish for heat / sun / sweat, it just isn’t me. People are like “Its 50, its freezing…. ” and I am like no… shorts and a t-shirt.

I am done rambling. I just want to remind you that YOU ARE AMAZING even if nobody has told you that today, don’t forget it! Stay safe, stay hydrated, fight the man and all that jazz.
